July 7th; All-Star Weekend

Yesterday I got to participate in a really fun corporate event related to the All-Star game. Funny how we never found out what charity was being benefited from this.

The event was called the 'Softball Challange" and it starred a bunch of pro-athletes playing softball in the Giants Minor league park in San Jose.

The Athletes were mostly current and alumni players of Bay-Area teams like the Warriors, the Kings, the Raiders and others.

George and I got some pictures with cheerleaders from the Raiders, the funny thing was, the only guy around who could take the picture was Art Thoms, Raiders Defensive Tackle from '69 to '77. He took a good picture.

Speaking of the Warriors, I spotted Matt Barnes of the Warriors here. SInce I've arrived the only Bay-Area team I've paid much attention to was the Warriors during their short but intense payoff run. Matt Barnes was a key player, here we are, 6'7" Barnes and 6'5" me. (he's slouching a little)

The thing that impressed me about Barnes & all the other players was how gracious they were to all the fans. They took the time to talk to people, sign autographs, chat about the game & the league & the season they just had, etc.

I also opted for a photo with the GS Warriors cheerleaders.

The softballs they were using were ridiculously huge. 16" around!! I think the idea was to have a ball big enough that you can't get hurt with a line-drive to the head. You also can't hit it out of the park, either.

After the game ended, me, George and one of my customers, Bryan of Quantros, went onto the field to hit the 'beach ball' around. The day was a lot of fun, it was well-run & the staff made sure we mat all the athletes. I was sunburned & beat when I got home. Can't wait to do it again, really!
